RSV VACCINE
New this year, Health Canada has approved a vaccine for RSV for people over the age of 60. RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) is a respiratory virus that infects the nose, throat, and lungs, similar to the cold or flu. According to clinical trials, a single dose of the RSV vaccine, AREXVY, was over 82 per cent effective in preventing RSV lung infections in people age 60 and older and over 94 per cent effective in preventing serious illness in that age group. If you are over age 60, have underlying medical conditions, and are interested in the vaccine, please let us know and a prescription can be faxed to your pharmacy. The cost of AREXVY is about $300. Please note a 14 day period is needed between receiving AREXVY and other vaccines, such as COVID-19 and the flu shot. To learn more about RSV and AREXVY, click here.

Cancer Screening Update
During the beginning of the pandemic, many preventative health services such as cancer screening were put on hold. Cancer Care Ontario has now recommended the gradual return to screening for breast, cervical, and colon cancer.
For most women age 25-69, pap smears are recommended every 3 years. If you are overdue for your pap smear, please call our office.
For most women age 50-75, mammograms are recommended every 2 years. If you are overdue for your mammogram, please contact your imaging facility directly to arrange.
For most adults age 50-75, we usually recommend FIT (stool testing) every 2 years or a colonoscopy every 5-10 years. If you are overdue for your FIT (stool test), please call our office and we will have lifelabs mail you a kit.
If you are unsure if you are up to date with you cancer screening or have questions around screening, please book an appointment to speak to your doctor.
